Dermaplane: What To Know
Dermaplaning Information & Consent
Dermaplaning is a form of manual exfoliation that uses a sterile, single-use blade to gently remove dead skin cells and fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) from the surface of the skin.
This treatment helps improve skin texture, enhance product absorption, and create a smoother, brighter appearance.
What to Expect
During your treatment, your skin will be carefully evaluated to determine if dermaplaning is appropriate.
This treatment:
• is non-invasive
• has minimal to no downtime
• may be combined with other services for enhanced results
Regular treatments, combined with proper homecare, provide the best long-term results.
Who Should Not Receive Dermaplaning Right Now
Dermaplaning may not be performed if any of the following are present:
• Active acne or inflamed breakouts
• Open wounds, lesions, or compromised skin
• Active infections (including cold sores)
• Sunburn or irritated skin
• Certain skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, or rosacea (case dependent)
• Recent chemical peels, waxing, or aggressive treatments
• Use of Accutane within the past year
• Use of strong exfoliating or retinoid products recently
Your esthetician will determine if treatment is safe and appropriate at the time of your appointment.
Important Information to Disclose
For your safety, you must inform your esthetician of:
• Medications (topical or oral)
• Current skincare products (especially exfoliants or Vitamin A)
• Recent treatments (peels, lasers, waxing, etc.)
• Medical conditions or skin sensitivities
• History of cold sores, keloid scarring, or delayed healing
Failure to disclose this information may increase the risk of irritation or adverse reactions.
Possible Side Effects & Reactions
Dermaplaning is generally well tolerated, however you may experience:
• Mild redness (typically resolves within a few hours)
• Sensitivity
• Dryness or light peeling
• Temporary breakouts
• Minor superficial abrasions or nicks (rare but possible)
These effects are typically temporary and resolve on their own.
Aftercare Responsibilities
Proper aftercare is essential for protecting your skin and results:
• Wear SPF daily (this is required)
• Avoid direct sun exposure and tanning
• Avoid heat (sauna, hot tubs, sweating, intense workouts) until redness subsides
• Avoid exfoliating products or active ingredients for 24–72 hours
• Keep skin hydrated and use recommended products
Following these guidelines helps prevent irritation and supports optimal results.
Results & Expectations
Most clients notice immediate improvement in:
• Skin smoothness
• Brightness
• Product absorption
However:
• Results vary from person to person
• Multiple treatments may be recommended
• Consistent homecare is essential for best results
There are no guarantees of specific outcomes.

Professional Judgment
All treatments are customized. Your esthetician may modify or avoid dermaplaning if it is not appropriate for your skin at the time of your appointment.
